Waiting...

So far we've got everything turned in except Husband's health report. And I did receive an email from our caseworker that she has started processing everything we turned in. I'm not sure what the next step is. I know they will need to come and check out our home. Then we will need to start training. I hope something happens soon. I'm getting really excited and hopeful about this new adventure!

Paperwork, Fingerprints, Shots!

I received a big fat packet in the mail from Social Services a few days ago and boy did I have a lot of work to do! The questionaire took me 1 1/2 hours to complete and we each had to fill one out of our own! Then we had to do fingerprints, get the animals all vacinated and get a health examination for ourselves. We've got to wait on those doctors appointments or else we'd have it turned back in already. Now that I think about it... I wonder if it would help them if we turned in what we had so far. I bet it would, so I'll see if I can go do that now!

The Ap Is In!

I just dropped of my application for fostering today! I'm really excited and hopeful about this. Right now I am searching the internet for whatever I can find on the topic while I wait to hear from a caseworker!

First Step

I've decided I'm going to pick up an application for foster care today. We've been talking about it for a few months now and I feel that we are both ready and committed enough to start the process. It doesn't feel scarey or forced. Instead it feels exciting and "right". For awhile there we were talking about selling EVERYTHING and trying to make a go of it in "travel mode", starting with Costa Rica. But the economy keeps us from selling our business and likely our house, for what they are really worth to us. So, we've come to terms with the fact that we may be grounded here in the mountains for a couple years at least. Fostering will give me the challenge I feel that I need at this point in my life. I'm also feeling a little bit like I'd like to have a child in my home. I wrestle with what that feeling is. I am not sure if I want to have kids of my own. I'm not sure if I want a baby. I don't think I crave that. So, I belive fostering will be good for me.

I Think We'd Make Good Foster Parents

Recently I saw a notice in the paper announcing a potluck dinner at Health and Human Services about learning about becoming a foster parent. I've always thought I would adopt and so I thought I would go out of curiousity. I just went and now I'm really excited. I think we will do it. We haven't decided for sure, our life is a little crazy right now but I think we'll start the training process and see what kind of feeling we get. Anyways, I just wanted to share this adventure on the web since I couldn't find much out there. I would love help someone else out by posting my experience.
